The pressure of blood against the walls of the arteries is called your blood pressure. It results from two sources, the heart when it pumps blood, and the circulatory system. If your blood pressure isn’t normal than it can either be high or low. Blood pressure is measured by an electronic device that is put around the arm and blown up. The doctor then puts a stethoscope to your arm while the air is let out slowly.
High blood pressure (systolic pressure) is measured when the doctor first hears the pulse. Low blood pressure (diastolic pressure) is measured from the moment the doctor is unable to hear the pulse. It is normally measured in terms of millimeters of mercury but do to the dangers of mercury it is no longer used. The systolic pressure is always placed first, for example 120/80 or 120 over 80. Blood pressure below this number is considered to be a good number. An example of high blood pressure would look like 140 over 90and low blood pressure would look like 80 over 89.
High blood pressure usually doesn’t have any symptoms; most people go years without ever knowing they have it. Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure. The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to have it checked. This can be done at a yearly physical.
Low blood pressure is called in medical terms hypotension. It has symptoms due to the low flow of blood through the veins. If the flow of blood is too low it doesn’t deliver enough oxygen to the vital organs. If they don’t get enough oxygen and nutrients they can not f unction normally and it can cause permanent damage.
The body has sensors in the walls of the arteries to monitor the pressure of blood sends signals out to other organs to either lower or increase the bloods pressure. There is a few different ways that this can be done. The veins can expand and narrow. This makes it so that more blood can be stored in the veins and less blood returns to the heart. The arterioles can also expand and narrow. The heart can also speed up and contract more frequently this makes it so it ejects more blood into each contraction. The kidneys can also help by increasing and decreasing the amount of urine that is being produced. Urine is mostly water that is removed from the blood.
High blood pressure can really hurt your kidneys. It makes your heart work harder and damages the blood vessels through your body. Damaged blood vessels in the kidney can result in them stopping wastes from being removed and removing excess fluids. The excess fluids can make blood pressure rise even higher. Kidney failure can result from high blood pressure.
There are changes you should have to make in your life if you have high blood pressure and need to lower it. Quitting smoking is a big cause. Lose weight if you’re over weight. And exercise regularly even if you aren’t over weight. Eating healthy and right can make a huge difference. Lots of fruits and veggies and food low in fat are optimal. Lower the amount of salt you in taking and caffeine too. Relieving stress can all help.
Not every one gets affected by high sodium intakes however. You still should limit your in take of salt to 2,400 mg. your doctor should be able to give you your proper limit. But make sure you are not adding salt to food and read the labels that are on packages to make sure that you’re not taking in over your limit. You may not realize that some foods contain a lot of salt in them. It’s not something you think about when n you’re eating it. Like bread and cheese have a lot of salt in them.
There are many kinds of medications that you can take to lower your blood pressure as well. If your blood pressure can only be controlled by taking prescription medication then most likely you’re going to have to take the medication for the rest of life. Stopping taking the medication without talking to your doctor could really increase your risk of a heart attack and a stroke. Some of these medications are diuretics, beta blockers, alpha blockers, ace inhibitors and calcium channel blockers.
There are lots of herbs and herbal remedies that can help you with your blood pressure as well. They can help to stimulate the circulation and important glands. Rosemary steeped as tea is a good tonic for the heart. Siberian ginseng, ginger, spiralina, and ginkgo biloba can all stimulate the circulatory system. Hawthorn berries and garlic can also regulate blood pressure in those who have to raise their blood pressure. Alternative Health Supplements offers some supplements that are all natural products. They have products that can support normal blood pressure and products that will lower your blood pressure.

Over 90% of high blood pressure ( hypertension ) cases have their cause unknown. You can even be suffering from hypertension, and not know. This is because there are no symptoms that are physically recognised. To be diagnosed you need to have your pressure checked by your doctor.
Your pressure levels are easily affected by things you do just before you’re tested. Smoking and drinking coffee can cause a temporary rise in your pressure which will show up on the results. Because of this, it is best to avoid any of these before you see your doctor as you can be tested at almost all doctor’s visits.
Other more serious health conditions that can cause high blood pressure are…
A stroke
High cholesterol
Diabetes
Heart disease
If you suffer, or have suffered from any of these it is a good idea to get yourself regularly checked. If you’re over the age of 60 then it’s a good idea to have regular checks as well.
You can help yourself reduce your blood pressure with the ten tips below.
Keeping your weight low will reduce the pressure on the way your whole body performs. Being overweight can out a strain on every major organ in your body.
Limit your intake of any alcoholic drinks.
Sodium is well known for increasing your blood pressure so you can change to a low sodium salt if you use it on your food, or you can cut it out altogether. Salt is also in a lot of foods so it’s a good idea to read the label before you purchase any.
Smoking kills hundreds of thousands of people every year so this should be cut out even if you don’t suffer from hypertension.
Getting regular exercise increases the strength of your heart and lungs as well as reduces your blood pressure. Just some easy, moderate exercise for half an hour a few times a week. Just walking will increase your heart rate enough for it to have an affect.
Eat a diet low in fat, especially saturated fat. Your body needs some fat to function properly so you don’t need to cut it out altogether. Some vitamins and minerals are transported around your body in your fat, and all you need to do is stick to the healthy fats.
Getting enough sleep will lower your hypertension.
Cut down your coffee intake if you’re a caffeine junkie. You can drink decaf if coffee is your favorite beverage.
Learn to relax more if your life contains a lot of stress. Meditation is a great way to relax, but it can take a while to master.
Take the time every day to do something you enjoy doing. Giving yourself a quality 30 minutes every day will make a difference in your life.
These are ten simple tips you can start doing today to lower your blood pressure.

As we know, high blood pressure is the force of your blood pushing against your arteries. When your heart has to work harder than normal to pump blood through your circulation system it causes damage to the heart and arteries, increasing your risk of heart attack and stroke. Therefore managing blood pressure becomes a very important factor not only for high blood pressure sufferers, but everyone to protect against heart disease and stroke. In the last article we discussed how to control high blood pressure in a general approach. In this article we will try to give some details of how to control high blood pressure with nutrition supplements.Study shows that the following might help to lower your high blood pressure and protect you against heart disease and stroke.1. PotassiumThe adequate potassium intake from fruits and vegetables can lower blood pressure. Unfortunately the body can not store potassium without magnesium. In the presence of adequate amounts of both potassium and magnesium, they increase the excretion of sodium and decrease high blood pressure.2. 3-n-butyl-phthalideA dose of the 3-n-butyl- phthalide compound is equivalent to four stalks of celery. In humans they lower blood pressure by an average of 13 percent.3. Hawthorn extractHerbalists recognized early that hawthorn held great promise for helping heart related problems such as congestive heart failure, cardiovascular system, circulatory system, and high blood pressure.4. Vitamin EPeople with high blood pressure need to increase their daily intake of vitamin E. Study shows that over a period of a month, a gradual increase of vitamin E dosage can yield a lower blood pressure5. Coenzyme Q10CoQ10 significantly reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure. There is also a reduction in HbA1C, a marker for long-term glycemic control.6. Folic acidFolate is a vitamin B that is necessary for the formation of red blood cells. It may help to lower high blood pressure in some people, possibly by reducing elevated homocysteine levels.8.SeleniumSelenium’s primary function in the human body is to work in conjunction with vitamin E in the preservation and elasticity of the tissues. It is also neccessary in the slowing down of the process of aging by increasing endurance and improving the blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle. The prostoglandins in the human body which protect against high blood pressure cannot be formed without selenium.9. ChromiumChromium reduces blood fat, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure. It also stabilizes blood sugar levels and helps correct insulin resistance10. L-arginineThere are many more supplements that help to expand the arteries, increasing circulation of blood to our body system as well as removing plaques from your arteries therefore lowering your blood pressure. Be sure to talk to your doctor, before taking any supplement. If you want more information of this subject, please visit:

High blood pressure is one of the most common health conditions in the United States. More than 50 million people in this country have high blood pressure. This amounts to almost one in four adults. Nearly a third (30 percent) of those with high blood pressure don’t know they have it. Another 36 percent don’t have their blood pressure under control. If left untreated, high blood pressure can damage the kidneys, or lead to a stroke, heart attack, or heart failure. Make no mistake, this is a serious problem, but, there are ways to lower blood pressure fast without drugs. First step to lower blood pressure fast is to avoid sodium. Many of today’s processed foods/snacks and canned foods are loaded with sodium. Sodium causes you to retain fluids so that your blood has more fluid volume. When this happens, your heart must pump harder to circulate this larger amount of fluid. To lower blood pressure fast, you should limit your caffeine intake. Even one or two servings of coffee, tea, or high caffeine drinks a day can increase your pressure. Caffeine is a stimulant that makes your heart beat faster. This, in turn increases your pressure. Are you still smoking? Quitting now will lower blood pressure fast and will improve your overall health as well. Smoking causes your pressure to increase because of the stimulants in cigarettes. Losing weight can dramatically lower blood pressure fast. Carrying extra weight causes your heart to work harder and beat faster. By losing those excess pounds, your pressure will drop along with your weight.A glass or two of red wine with dinner has also been shown to lower blood pressure fast. A glass of red wine cleans out your arteries, makes it easier for them to dilate, and allows blood to flow through them more smoothly. When your arteries are able to dilate properly, your pressure comes down. But there is another simple way to lower blood pressure fast. In fact, using this simple technique, you can normalize your blood pressure in 3 Weeks or Less using a safe natural home remedy! And you can do this without resorting to expensive drugs! Download my new guide now to Lower blood Pressure Fast!

Blood is carried from the heart to all parts of your body in vessels called arteries. The pumping action of the heart must create enough force to push blood through the major arteries, into the smaller arteries, and finally into the tiny capillaries, where the porous walls permit fluid exchange between the blood and body tissue. The actual mechanisms which explain why the blood pressure is high has to do mainly with the constriction of the small arterioles which are in all of the tissues of the body. The body is usually successful at providing enough blood around the obstruction, but the pressure is low, including the pressure to the kidneys. In this way, that kidney may produce enough blood pressure to satisfy itself, while the rest of the body sees very high pressures as a result.

With high blood pressure, the heart works harder, your arteries take a beating, and your chances of a stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems are greater. It can enlarge the heart, create small bulges (aneurysms) in blood vessels, damage the blood vessels in the kidneys, harden arteries, produce bleeding in the eyes. In this situation, the kidney which is blocked doesn’t “see” enough blood pressure, and releases chemicals causing the blood pressure to go up. If high blood pressure is left unchecked, it can cause blood vessels in the kidneys to become thickened and narrowed, possibly leading to reduced blood supply and reduced kidney function. It is a major cause of kidney failure (renal failure) which may require dialysis Heart Failure is a frequent occurrence in long standing hypertension. Treating and controlling your hypertension can help prevent damage to your heart, brain, kidneys, blood vessels, and eyes.

Experts recommend investigation of patients who seem to be at above average risk on such epidemiological grounds as age and sex or on the presence of symptoms or signs of specific disorders. Many patients eventually require two or more drugs to effectively control their blood pressure. However, in some patients– especially those who have made lifestyle modifications such as losing weight– may be able to modify their antihypertensive medication regimen after hypertension has been controlled for at least one year. In patients with high blood pressure, side effects and costs of medications are also factors which weigh heavily on which agent if any is prescribed. For any number of reasons, patients may not take their drugs as prescribed or may not take them at all.

High blood pressure is a problem that won’t go away without treatment and changes to your diet and lifestyle. The goal of treatment is to reduce your blood pressure to normal levels with medicine that’s easy to take and has few, if any, side effects. Your physician will use both the systolic and the diastolic blood pressure to determine your blood pressure category and appropriate prevention and treatment activities. For the physician, it is a difficult area due to the fact that patients don’t feel bad, yet must be prescribed medicines which can be costly and have side effects which make the patient feel worse than they did prior to treatment. If your blood pressure has remained stubbornly high despite taking at least three medications, including a diuretic, you may have resistant hypertension – blood pressure that is resistant to treatment. If these causes of resistant hypertension aren’t to blame or treatment doesn’t work, talk to your doctor about joining a clinical trial for high blood pressure.

Having high cholesterol increases your probability of having a heart attack and/or stroke. With its circulatory-supporting nutrients, Resterol is your natural means for preventing health complications caused by elevated cholesterol.

Lowering your blood pressure, even if your readings are already in the normal range, has its benefits. To lower your pressure is about adopting a lifestyle modification program aimed at lowering your blood pressure. If you don’t know what high blood pressure is or how it affects you. I encourage you to keep reading and discover how you can take control of it naturally.
High blood pressure damages your blood vessels. This is why it’s so important to have your blood pressure checked regularly. Treatment begins with changes you can make to your lifestyle to help lower your blood pressure and reduce your risk of heart disease. Most people who have high blood pressure should limit the sodium in their diet each day to less than 2,400 mg. In addition to that there are other ways to get your pressure down. Here are a few.
Weight
Weight Loss- Why even losing a few pounds can lower your blood pressure naturally. If you think you’re overweight find out what your natural weight should be. Losing the excess weight usually helps lower blood pressure. Physical activity is important in controlling weight and improving the overall health of your body and your heart’s efficiency. Getting down to a comfortable weight also increases you metabolism and gives you extra energy.
Exercise
Exercise- The right prescription for hypertension, regular aerobic exercise is a key ingredient to lowering your blood pressure. It is likely to reduce depression and anxiety and help you to better manage stress. Usually 30 minutes of moderate exercise does the trick.
Sodium
Limit your sodium, alcohol and caffeine intake. While some foods obviously have a lot of sodium, such as potato chips, you may not realize how much sodium is in things like bread and cheese. So make sure you read product labels to give you an idea of how much sodium you getting.
Eating
Eating potassium-rich foods is important for maintaining a healthy balance of minerals and for keeping blood pressure low. This approach to stopping hypertension involves eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and other foods that are heart healthy and lower in salt/sodium. Not only does this emphasize good eating habits, but also suggests healthy alternatives to “junk food” and discourages the consumption of processed foods.
Massage
Massage provides deep relaxation lessening your muscle tension and lowering your blood pressure (by reducing heart and pulse rates). Massage increases your mental clarity, heightens mental alertness, and revitalizes your mind. Massage therapy increases blood supply, oxygen, and nutrition to muscle tissue, joints, and the vital organs, and improves circulation throughout the body.
Daily physical activity can help prevent heart disease and stroke by strengthening your heart muscle therefore, lowering your blood pressure. After all is said and done you can’t put a price on your self-esteem or lowering your blood pressure or getting rid of pain. If your heart can work less to pump, the force on your arteries decreases, lowering your blood pressure. If you are already on medication and want to consider natural alternatives, consult with you doctor before stopping you medication.

To make sure you can keep your blood pressure at a lower and healthier level, it is important to first, know the risks. If you know exactly what you are up against, you can better treat yourself, or change your lifestyle accordingly.

Everybody will be at risk of high blood pressure, sometime during their life. It makes absolutely no difference how or why, just as long as you are aware of the risks and potential causes, otherwise you could accidentally set yourself up to have high blood pressure, later in life.

The main risks for developing high blood pressure are genetic, racial and age. People with a darker skin tone, like African Americans are far more likely to develop high blood pressure, and they usually develop the problem at an earlier age.

The older people get, the more likely you are to develop high blood pressure or hypertension. Age definitely is one of the main causes of high blood pressure. Interestingly, women are not usually prone to developing high blood pressure and hypertension until a while after their menopause, although after the menopause women do move into a high risk group. Men are always at a higher risk of developing hypertension and high blood pressure, usually between the ages of 35-50 years, and obviously the older they get the higher the risk.

Whilst you cannot control the risk factors that are genetic, there are some other measures that you can take to decrease the risk of high blood pressure and hypertension. One of the best ways to control the risk of high blood pressure is to control your weight. Obesity is one of the main causes of high blood pressure, especially if you are over the suggested optimum weight for your age and gender. Diet, exercise and other lifestyle changes affect your weight positively.

It is not just how much you eat that will contribute to obesity, but what you eat is also a big contributor. Drinking too much alcohol, consuming too much salt as well as eating too many fatty foods will make you overweight. It is best to stick to somewhere around four to six grams or less of salt per day, two units of alcohol per day for men, and one unit per day for women.

Stress is a big contributor to high blood pressure and hypertension. No matter how you feel, if you have been in particularly stressful situations i.e. a stressful job, for a long period of time, the chances are it will affect your blood pressure levels. Stress is one of the main causes of high blood pressure, so breath deeply, rest well and take a walk if you feel that you may be under too much stress.

Stress also means that you may swap some good habits to try to better deal with the situations. This may include eating fatty and sodium filled take out food, smoking or staying indoors instead of walking. It is important to keep to your good habits, as you may think that smoking or eating a take out will deal with your stress levels, but they will make it worse, and contribute to the risk of obesity.

If any one couples any of the genetic risk factors with inactivity or obesity they are in the highest risk group. We cannot stress enough how important it is for these people to keep a healthy diet, exercise and keep your alcohol and salt intake low. If you fall into the category of those who cannot control their high blood pressure risks, make sure you keep control of the other aspects of your life that may increase the risk of high blood pressure and hypertension. It is most important, above all if you are over 50 years old and male, to keep your stress levels down. High blood pressure and hypertension in the over 50s is the biggest cause of heart attacks.

Bare all of this information in mind and you are definitely on your way to becoming healthier, whilst lowering your blood pressure and decreasing the risk of hypertension.

Is your diastolic blood pressure reading greater than 80 mm HMG? If it is between 81 and 99 you are pre-hypertensive. If your reading is greater than 100 then you have hypertension. In either case you need to lower your diastolic reading back to normal to avoid possible serious medical consequences.Recent studies indicate that a high diastolic reading has an impact on cognitive function. That is to say people with this condition have a more difficult time performing mental tasks and may have an impaired memory as well. Does this mean high diastolic pressure causes Alzheimer’s? The jury is still out on that but for certain you want to take action to lower the pressure and the sooner the better. There are basically two ways to get your blood pressure under control.Your doctor may prescribe one or more blood pressure medications. These can include diuretics, beta blockers, alpha blockers or calcium channel blockers. These medications, with the exception of the diuretics, are designed to interrupt your body’s natural response to high blood pressure in an effort to control or limit the damage done by the condition.Medication is an ongoing therapy. It’s important to recognize that these drugs do not cure hypertension, they control it. That means you will be on one or more daily medications for the rest of your life because without them, the condition will return full blown with the possibility of fatal results. Not a pretty picture is it?Even if you are on medication today, there are things you can do to lower diastolic pressure naturally and safely. In fact the American Heart Association recommends a change in lifestyle to include diet, exercise and stress management as the first defense against this disease. Why is that?Well it’s because nobody knows for certain what causes high blood pressure or hypertension, but it is commonly accepted that those people with the condition also have one or more of the following in common:

So what’s the way to lower diastolic blood pressure safely? Just take a look at the three conditions above and start attacking them. You don’t have to get drastic about it, even small improvements will result in a lower blood pressure reading.Three quick fixes include:

So if you want to lower your blood pressure you have these two choices. Medication that is both expensive and comes with side effects; or making changes in your life that will allow a natural reduction in pressure. The choice is yours.

High blood pressure tends to sneak up on many people especially as we get older. Heredity plays an important role if you are inclined to develop high blood pressure. An increasing sedentary lifestyle coupled with the love of “feel good” foods is escalating the number of people diagnosed each year. It is important we recognize, monitor and control an early high blood pressure reading.

There are obvious and not so obvious steps that you can take to effectively control and manage to lower your risk of heart disease, stroke and lower your high blood pressure. Here are a few practical things to consider as part of your routines and regimens:

1) Take it off and keep it off! Being overweight is a large factor in high blood pressure. Not only will you feel better with less weight to bear on the knees and ankles, but you will take the first step in lowering the pressure.

2) Shed all extra pounds and unnecessary weight that you are carrying around. Some of us could be classified as skinny fat people. A small framed body with a large body mass index equals an overweight person.

3) Park further from the front door when shopping and go for regular daily walks during lunch or after dinner. This is a little known “secret” for weight loss. It works! Stopping fighting for the parking space that is at the front door, walk it.

4) Lower alcohol and caffeine intake – these are empty calories. I know, some of us really love our drinks but you are paying a price in wasted calories.

5) Healthy eating is a conscious decision and will not just happen randomly. Left up to our own devices we will tend to over-eat, indulge, choice the wrong food and treats and having our attempts at eating a healthy diet just simply tank.

6) Get moving and tap into what your body was designed for – TO MOVE! Be more physically active and start taking the stairs, not the escalator or elevator. How many people work on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th floor in a building and take an elevator? Again, start slow and great things happen.

7) Choose foods that are very low in saturated fat, cholesterol and salt. This is about avoiding temptation more than not knowing what is good for us. Motivation is the key here.

Added Bonus – Take your blood pressure readings at grocery stores, drug stores and other retailers where available. Try to use the same machine(s) for comparison because the machines can vary depending on their maintenance. The next time you visit the doctor’s office, take a machine for home use and calibrate to their readings. Once you have a baseline established then monitor the blood pressure regularly for best results.

The fact that your symptoms might not be severe or noticeable at all, does not mean that you are immune or not at risk! This is in most cases and for all intents and purposes and invisible disease, illness and medical condition.

Learning and mastering how to take charge of lowering your own blood pressure, effectively, learning how to monitor it properly, regularly and make the necessary changes, even the harder ones, in your life and lifestyle to get success and results that will last and ensure a lifetime!
