<p>Researchers for the College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky found that LDL &#8216;bad&#8217; cholesterol can be reduced by up to twenty per cent just by eating a cup full of cooked beans every day. Lentils, chick peas and even baked beans all help to boost your HDL cholesterol levels. </p>
<p>One Israeli team found that people who ate avocados everyday for twelve weeks made big reductions on their LDL cholesterol levels. It is assumed that the high levels of mono-saturated fats in Avocados were the reason for the success. </p>
<p>For people known to have high levels of LDL cholesterol in their blood, possibly the best addition to their diet would be oats. Oats contain a fibre called beta glucans and this sticks to the walls of your intestines and so blocks the LDL cholesterol from absorbing into the blood stream. It can also boost HDL levels. </p>
<p>The Omega 3 fatty acids found in oily fish have the effect of boosting HDL levels. The most common fish with these benefits are Herrings, Mackerel, Trout and Salmon. </p>
<p>New research by the University of California has shown that LDL cholesterol can be stopped from oxidising by using Olive oil in your diet. The Olive oil prevents the bad cholesterol from sticking to the artery walls. </p>
<p>Anti-social as some people may think, eating raw garlic and raw onions are proved to reduce bad cholesterol and improve good cholesterol. A study in Seatle at the Bastyr College proved that eating garlic every day, 3 cloves, found good cholesterol up by 23% and bad cholesterol down by 7%. Harvard Medical School found similar results with eating half of an onion a day. They found that good cholesterol levels had increased by up to 30%. In both studies they found that cooking both onions and garlic dramatically reduced their powers. They are not though foods high in cholesterol. </p>
<p>Both Green and Black teas, with or without caffeine can also improve your cholesterol levels. Flavanoids, a type of antioxidant is proved to help the body to control cholesterol with just two or three cups of it a day. </p>

However, for the first time in more than a decade, the USDA has updated the food pyramid based on the latest scientific findings on how to treat your body to better health. Awareness of the benefits of healthy food choices, like high fiber foods, has been more and more prevalent in our proactive American quest for wise nutrition.  </p>
<p>Fiberlady has continually emphasized a fruitful (one must learn to appreciate the pun) diet for her high fiber imperative. The undeniable truth is that vegetables, fruits and whole grains are needed for daily vitamins, minerals and fiber.  </p>
<p>The first step (orange) of the new food pyramid recommends eating 5-8 ounces of grains per day depending on age and gender. Whole grains breads, cereals and brown rice are among the healthy choices. One step up (green) on the pyramid are the vegetables and fiber-rich plants. It is recommended 2½ cups of vegetables per day to include a variety of legumes, leafy greens and orange colored vegetables such as butternut or acorn squash. Next, the red step represents fruits. 1 cup chopped onion<br />
4 garlic cloves, minced<br />
1 medium zucchini, thinly sliced<br />
8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced<br />
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning<br />
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper<br />
2 &#8211; 14 ounce cans diced tomatoes<br />
1 &#8211; 8 ounce can tomato sauce<br />
1 -10.5 ounce can low-fat chicken broth<br />
2/3 cup cracked wheat<br />
1 &#8211; 16 ounce can kidney beans, drained<br />
1 &#8211; 16 ounce can green beans, drained<br />
1/4 cup fresh parsley<br />
3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese </p>
<p>Preparations: </p>
<p>Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat; add onion and garlic and sauté 5 minutes or until tender. Add zucchini and mushrooms and cook 5 minutes. </p>
<p>Add Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper, tomatoes, chicken broth, and wheat. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes. Uncover, add kidney beans, green beans and parsley; simmer until heated through. Ladle into each bread bowl. Sprinkle with cheese. </p>

1 1/4 cups warm water (105-115°F)<br />
1 package active dry yeast<br />
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar<br />
1 1/2 teaspoons salt<br />
1 tablespoon olive oil<br />
2 1/4 to 2 3/4 cups bread flour<br />
1 cup whole wheat flour<br />
1 large egg, beaten<br />
1 tablespoon milk </p>
<p>Preparations:  </p>
<p>Preheat oven to 400°F. </p>
<p>Measure water into large bowl; sprinkle in yeast and stir until dissolved. Add sugar, salt, oil, and 1 1/4 cups bread flour; beat until smooth. Add whole wheat flour and enough additional bread flour to make stiff dough. Turn onto lightly floured board; knead until smooth and elastic, 10 to 12 minutes. Place dough in bowl that has been lightly coated with nonstick spray, turning to grease top. Cover; let rise in warm place until double, about 1 hour. </p>
<p>Grease outside of 6 ovenproof bowls that are approximately 4-inches in diameter (10-ounce custard cups). </p>
<p>Punch dough down; divide into 6 pieces. Cover and let rest 10 minutes. Spread each piece into a circle about 6 inches in diameter. Place over outside of bowl, working dough with hands until it fits. Set bowls, dough side up, on baking sheet coated with nonstick spray. Cover with plastic wrap; let rise in warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes. </p>
<p>Combine egg and milk; gently brush mixture on dough. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown. Using potholders, carefully remove the bowls. Set bread bowls, open side up on baking pan; bake 5 minutes. </p>
<p>*Frozen bread dough can be used. A one-pound loaf will make 4 bowls. </p>

<p>Risks &amp; Disadvantages </p>
<p>· Heart attack. The chances of birth control pills contributing to a heart attack are small unless you smoke. Studies have shown that smoking dramatically increases the risk of heart attack in women age 35 years or older, which is why pills are generally not prescribed to women in this age group who smoke. </p>
<p>· Blood pressure. Women taking birth control pills usually have a small increase in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, although readings usually remain within the normal range. </p>
<p>· Migraines and stroke. Women who take oral contraceptive and have a history of migraines have an increased risk of stroke compared to nonusers with a history of migraine. </p>
<p>· Blood clots (Venous thromboembolism). Women who use birth control pills are at a slightly increased risk of having a blood clot in the legs or lungs. Studies consistently show that the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) is two to six times higher in oral contraceptive users than in nonusers. The risk of blood clots is highest in women with clotting disorders or who have previously had a deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Other risk factors include obesity, older age, having several family members who&#8217;ve had blood clots before old age, air travel, and having to lie or sit for a prolonged period, as you might after major surgery. </p>
<p>Types of Birth Control Pills </p>
<p>Progestin-only pills </p>
<p>The progestin-only pills (also called &#8220;mini-pills&#8221;) became available in the 1970s. Their use was and has been limited &#8211; making up only 1 to 10 % of contraceptive market. This type of pills contains no estrogen and therefore they do not usually prevent ovulation. To work effectively, they must be taken at a certain time every 24 hours. Even missing one pill can greatly reduce effectiveness. </p>
<p>Progestin-only pills have specific advantages over combined oral contraceptives. Because they do not contain estrogen, they are a good contraceptive choice for breastfeeding women, as estrogen reduces milk production, and for women with health conditions that preclude use of combined oral contraceptives pills, such as migraine headaches, thromboembolism, and cardiovascular disease. </p>
<p>Combination pills </p>
<p>When you hear the term &#8220;birth control pill,&#8221; it most often refers to oral contraceptives containing estrogen and progestin. Combination pills contain a combination of these two hormones. They are categorized as monophasic, biphasic, or triphasic pills depending on whether the level of hormones stays the same during the first three weeks of the menstrual cycle or changes. </p>
<p>Emergency contraceptive pills (ECP) </p>

<p>Appetite is often confused with hunger, but they are 2 different things with different factors. Hunger is a natural indication that your body is in need of food and it would prove unhealthy to try to fight it. Appetite, however, is principally caused by psychological factors and does not respond to any physiological need.</p>
<p>Indeed, stimulation of the mouth is a source of comfort and pleasure, which explains why some people like to chew gum for example. Similarly, this is why some people enjoy having a cigarette in their mouths, or why people can feel hunger without actually needing to eat.</p>
<p>This comfort and pleasure may be unconsciously sought after by the mind when experiencing a stressful situation, which is why anxiety and stress can frequently create the desire to eat. Several clues can help your doctor identify acne that may be influenced by hormones: acne that appears in adults for the first time acne flare ups preceding the menstrual cycle irregular menstrual cycles hirsutism excessive growth of hair or hair in unusual places and elevated levels of certain androgens in the blood stream.Adult women and teenage girls whose acne has resisted treatment with antibiotics or topical retinoids may be candidates for hormonal therapy. Once a patients acne is identified as hormonally influenced, the doctor will be able to prescribe a number of different therapies, or perhaps a combination of several different drugs combination therapy is often the best approach to this kind of acne. Following are a few common components of therapy for hormonal acne, but remember to consult your doctor before using any of the remedies listed here.Acne  Birth Control Pill Oral contraceptives.
