Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is considered a major risk factor for heart attack and stroke. In most cases, there is no cure for high blood pressure. Medication can help you controlling your blood pressure, but you are generally on medication for the rest of your life. And very often, you will need more and more medication. A better solution is to change your life style.

Two forms of high blood pressure have been defined, essential (or primary) and secondary. Essential hypertension is a far more common condition and accounts for 95% of all cases. The cause of essential hypertension is unknown but often believed to be multi-factorial, that is, it is caused by a combination of several factors. Secondary hypertension is caused by an identifiable underlying secondary cause, for example kidney diseases.

The best way to maintain healthy blood pressure is always through a healthy lifestyle. For most people, a number of changes are required. Try to do just one change at a time, trying to change everything at once seldom works.

Lack of physical activity is a problem for many. The good news is that in order to get your blood pressure down, you do not need to go to gym on a daily basis. For most people, walking, cycling, dancing or swimming is good enough. But it needs to be done at least three times per week. Just 30 minutes a day is enough, it is more important to do your exercises frequently.

A healthier diet is very important. By eating more fruit and vegetables combined with less processed food, you are well on your way to a healthier diet. Also, eat more fish and less red meat. Cut down on salt and sodium, prepared food often contains a lot of salt or sodium.

Be careful with alcohol, drinking too much alcohol will increase your blood pressure over time. You should also be careful with caffeine, for example coffee and coca-cola, it will temporarily increase your blood pressure, and you don’t need any temporary boost. Interestingly enough, in small quantities, red wine can prevent heart diseases. So you can drink up to one glass of red wine per day, and it may improve your health.

Stress is a very common problem today. It is one of main suspected causes of hypertension. By doing relaxation exercises or meditation on a daily basis, stress can be reduced. It can be as easy as a slow breathing exercise or just an imagined holiday on a tropical beach, but it has to be done every day.

If you see your doctor regularly you more than likely have your blood pressure checked every time. This is a necessary procedure to monitor your pressure and be sure you don’t have high blood pressure. There are different reasons one has high blood pressure and different things you can do to help lower it.If you have high blood pressure it damages your blood vessels increasing your risk for stroke or heart and kidney diseases. In other words, having high blood pressure is very harmful to your health and you want to treat it right away.Making lifestyle changes is the first way to go when you want to lower your blood pressure. If doing these simple changes does not help and you have to use medication, continue doing the changes along with the medication. The lifestyle changes alone may just not be enough and added with medication could help significantly. If you use any tobacco of any kind, stop your use or decrease it significantly. Nicotine makes your blood vessels constrict resulting in a faster heart beat. This faster heart beat raises your blood pressure. You can easily find products that help quit smoking or help quit the use of other tobacco products. If you are overweight you are at a high risk of high blood pressure. Start a diet program and start eating healthier. Exercising regularly is very beneficial to lowering your blood pressure. Plan an exercise routine and track your progress. This will show you what is working and what is not.Eat plenty of fruit and veggies and try a low fat diet. Try to stay clear of sodium, alcohol and caffeine or at least limit your intake. Sodium isn’t harmful to everyone’s blood pressure but until you know for sure, it is better to take precaution.Alcohol can cause high blood pressure in some people as well. Try to only drink one or two alcoholic beverages a day. If you know this is increasing your blood pressure, try to quit altogether. Your health might be at risk.Stress can sometimes affect your blood pressure. Stress is very common and there are millions of ways to help reduce stress. Try some relaxing techniques first and if none of these work talk to your doctor. They may have some better suggestions. If all else fails you may have to turn to medication. There are many types of medicine to help you lower your blood pressure. You may end up taking this medicine for the rest of your life but if it helps keep you healthy, it is worth it.If you are still unsure of how to handle your blood pressure talking with your doctor is the best solution. Tell them of your concerns or ask them any questions you might have. No question is stupid when it comes to your health. You could even do some research online and find out many things about blood pressure. You are not the only one curious about taking care of your health. Take the necessary steps to live a long healthy life.

Many medical experts considered low blood pressure as nature’s gifts, because it slows done damages to the internal organs as compared with high blood pressure patients. Still the low blood pressure symptoms are annoying and need to avoid it with proper treatment. Simple lifestyle changes or hypotension guidelines are enough to bring back the normal pressure in most of the cases of low blood pressure.

Blood pressureA nominal blood pressure is needed to blood circulation in the body to supply nutrient and oxygen for energy. Blood pressure is indicated by two different numbers diastolic over systolic. Systolic pressure means pressure during heart contracts and diastolic pressure means pressure during heart dilates (rest).

If these blood pressures are lower than certain range then it is considered as low blood pressure. Experts considered a blood pressure lower than systolic of 90 mmHg or diastolic of 60 mmHg as low blood pressure or hypotension.

Many of the low blood pressure symptoms are considered annoying, may cause injury and it affects our daily routine duties. And so it is a must to have treatment for low blood pressure at least to stop low blood pressure annoying symptoms.

Hypotension guidelinesThe first step towards the low blood pressure treatment is lifestyle changes or hypotension guidelines or low blood pressure home remedies.

What are hypotension guidelines?Hypotension guidelines are nothing but simple lifestyle chances that helps to normalize blood pressure.

The immediate goal of the hypotension guidelines is to raise the blood pressure and stop the annoying low blood pressure symptoms.

Some of the suggested hypotension guidelines

Many people suffering from high blood pressure need to take their blood pressure reading daily, sometimes more often. A technological advance has made taking a blood pressure easier than ever before. Gone are the days when you had to take a blood pressure reading from the upper arm. Today, different styles and models of blood pressure reading equipment are available to suit just about any comfort level. Are you Aneroid or Digital?
Two common types of blood pressure reading pieces of equipment are the aneroid and the digital blood pressure reading monitor. The most commonly bought model these days is a digital monitor. A digital monitor has several advantages over the more old-fashioned aneroid blood monitor.
When it comes to taking your blood pressure reading, there are several things to consider and guidelines to follow. First, before taking your reading, do not consume or use any alcohol, tobacco or products containing caffeine for at least 30 minutes before the reading. If possible, use the rest room before taking a reading. Make sure to rest at least several minutes before trying to get a reading as well. Make yourself comfortable and sit or lie down with your arms and legs uncrossed to allow unrestricted blood flow throughout the body. How to Get an Aneroid Reading
When using an aneroid blood pressure reading cuff, place the arm in line with your heart and allow it to rest unmoving. Any blood pressure reading cuff should fit your arm comfortably without being too loose or too tight. To test, slip one finger beneath the cuff. When you place the cuff around your upper left arm, make sure it is at least an inch from the elbow joint. Slide the stethoscope disk on the inner part of the elbow, over the brachial artery. How to Get a Digital Reading
To use a digital monitor to get a blood pressure reading, place the cuff around the arm as you did using an aneroid monitor. Starting the machine will automatically inflate the cuff. The digital readout display should soon give your blood pressure reading.
Some digital monitors can fit around the wrist as well, and you can use them the same way. However, make sure that you place the pressure cuff so its bottom edge is about an inch away from the base of the hand. Again, it is important to remain still when using a digital cuff because they are sensitive to movement. If you move about while the machine is reading your pressure, you can get a wrong reading, or no reading at all.Where you can buy your monitor
You can find most blood pressure monitors in medical supply stores. But you can also get them on the Internet if it is more convenient for you.
Once you buy a monitor, keep it in good working condition by following the manufacturers instructions. For digital monitors, you should keep an extra supply of batteries, for times when you might need to use the monitor during weekends or holidays. This also applies if you are going away on a vacation. A small investment will give you a good blood pressure reading cuff that will last for many years.

You may know information about hypertension or high blood pressure. On the other hand, you may merely know about low blood pressure or hypotension.
Low blood pressure or hypotension is pressure that is lower than normal blood pressure. You may have low blood pressure if your blood pressure is 90/60 or lower.
Low blood pressure sign is the low flow of blood through the arteries and veins. If you have low blood pressure, the flow of blood is too low to deliver enough oxygen and nutrients to vital organs such as the brain, heart, and kidney, the organs do not function normally and may be permanently damaged.
People who have lower blood pressures have a lower risk of stroke, kidney disease, and heart disease. Athletes, people who exercise regularly, people who maintain ideal body weight, and non-smokers tend to have lower blood pressures. Therefore, low blood pressure is desirable as long as it is not low enough to cause symptoms and damage organs in the body.
The cause of low blood pressure is not being the exactly one but low blood pressure may be involved with pregnancy, hormonal problems, heart failure, heat exhaustion, or liver disease. In some other people, they have a low blood pressure because of some event or medical condition. Some people may experience symptoms of low pressure when standing up too quickly. Anyway low blood pressure is a problem only if it causes dizziness, fainting or in extreme cases, shock so that if you have low blood pressure problem you have to consult your doctor urgently to get an advise for control low blood pressure symptom.
Even low blood pressure is, normally, not cause you health complication but if low blood pressure is disturb your every day life, there are many way you can take care yourselves.
Good and health diet can help you to control low blood pressure. You should get nutrients completely for your body need by having a variety kind of foods, including whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean chicken and fish. You may add more salt in your foods as a bit amount of salt give you sodium can raise blood pressure. But you, importantly, should consult with your doctor before adding up your salt intake because having too mush sodium can lead to heart failure.
If you eat in small meal with low crab food, it can help prevent dropping sharply low blood pressure after meals. You should separate to eat in small portions and several times in a day and limit high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. Drinking a bit caffeinated coffee or tea with meals may temporarily raise blood pressure. However alcohol can cause lower blood pressure, even you drink in small amount. But you should drink more water because water against dehydration and increases blood level.
To go more slowly, you can reduce the dizziness and faintness that occurs with low blood pressure on standing by taking slowly movement when you change your position. Before getting out of bed in the morning, for example, breathe deeply for a few minutes and then slowly sit up before standing.
From all above, keeping healthy and have and good food can help you to maintain normal blood pressure and avoid low blood pressure.

The pressure of blood against the walls of the arteries is called your blood pressure. It results from two sources, the heart when it pumps blood, and the circulatory system. If your blood pressure isn’t normal than it can either be high or low. Blood pressure is measured by an electronic device that is put around the arm and blown up. The doctor then puts a stethoscope to your arm while the air is let out slowly.
High blood pressure (systolic pressure) is measured when the doctor first hears the pulse. Low blood pressure (diastolic pressure) is measured from the moment the doctor is unable to hear the pulse. It is normally measured in terms of millimeters of mercury but do to the dangers of mercury it is no longer used. The systolic pressure is always placed first, for example 120/80 or 120 over 80. Blood pressure below this number is considered to be a good number. An example of high blood pressure would look like 140 over 90and low blood pressure would look like 80 over 89.
High blood pressure usually doesn’t have any symptoms; most people go years without ever knowing they have it. Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure. The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to have it checked. This can be done at a yearly physical.
Low blood pressure is called in medical terms hypotension. It has symptoms due to the low flow of blood through the veins. If the flow of blood is too low it doesn’t deliver enough oxygen to the vital organs. If they don’t get enough oxygen and nutrients they can not f unction normally and it can cause permanent damage.
The body has sensors in the walls of the arteries to monitor the pressure of blood sends signals out to other organs to either lower or increase the bloods pressure. There is a few different ways that this can be done. The veins can expand and narrow. This makes it so that more blood can be stored in the veins and less blood returns to the heart. The arterioles can also expand and narrow. The heart can also speed up and contract more frequently this makes it so it ejects more blood into each contraction. The kidneys can also help by increasing and decreasing the amount of urine that is being produced. Urine is mostly water that is removed from the blood.
High blood pressure can really hurt your kidneys. It makes your heart work harder and damages the blood vessels through your body. Damaged blood vessels in the kidney can result in them stopping wastes from being removed and removing excess fluids. The excess fluids can make blood pressure rise even higher. Kidney failure can result from high blood pressure.
There are changes you should have to make in your life if you have high blood pressure and need to lower it. Quitting smoking is a big cause. Lose weight if you’re over weight. And exercise regularly even if you aren’t over weight. Eating healthy and right can make a huge difference. Lots of fruits and veggies and food low in fat are optimal. Lower the amount of salt you in taking and caffeine too. Relieving stress can all help.
Not every one gets affected by high sodium intakes however. You still should limit your in take of salt to 2,400 mg. your doctor should be able to give you your proper limit. But make sure you are not adding salt to food and read the labels that are on packages to make sure that you’re not taking in over your limit. You may not realize that some foods contain a lot of salt in them. It’s not something you think about when n you’re eating it. Like bread and cheese have a lot of salt in them.
There are many kinds of medications that you can take to lower your blood pressure as well. If your blood pressure can only be controlled by taking prescription medication then most likely you’re going to have to take the medication for the rest of life. Stopping taking the medication without talking to your doctor could really increase your risk of a heart attack and a stroke. Some of these medications are diuretics, beta blockers, alpha blockers, ace inhibitors and calcium channel blockers.
There are lots of herbs and herbal remedies that can help you with your blood pressure as well. They can help to stimulate the circulation and important glands. Rosemary steeped as tea is a good tonic for the heart. Siberian ginseng, ginger, spiralina, and ginkgo biloba can all stimulate the circulatory system. Hawthorn berries and garlic can also regulate blood pressure in those who have to raise their blood pressure. Alternative Health Supplements offers some supplements that are all natural products. They have products that can support normal blood pressure and products that will lower your blood pressure.

What is Treatment of Low Blood pressure?

If you know the cause of low blood pressure then treat the cause first to treat low blood pressure. Chronic low blood pressure can be treated with life style changes and diet management. You can easily control your blood pressure to normal limits by making following changes to your daily life style.

Use more salt. Doctors often suggest you to decrease salt intake, as sodium can increase blood pressure. But this is an advantage for people with low blood pressure. If you are patient of heart failure then consult your doctor before increasing salt in your diet.

Drink lot of fluids — You may take 10 glasses of fluid a day. During exercise and hot weather you should take fluids rich in sodium and potassium

Take extra salt and water during illness like flue and cold. During flue you may lose lot of fluid.

Have your doctor evaluate your medicine and omit that drug that is causing too low blood pressure.

To promote blood flow, have regular exercise.

If you are having postural hypotension, then be careful while standing up from lying or sitting position. Breath deeply for few minutes before standing up. Pump your ankles and feet a few times before standing up to increase circulation. For few minutes sit upright on edge of bed before standing up. Cross your thighs and legs in a scissors fashion and squeeze or put one foot on a chair and lean as far forward as possible. These maneuvers increase blood flow from your legs to heart.

Slightly elevate head of your bed while sleeping by placing bricks under the head of bed.

Avoid heavy lifting

Do not strain when you are in toilet

Don’t take prolong hot water baths, if you are having symptoms while taking bath, sit down. It is better to keep a chair in shower to help prevent injury.

If your blood pressure gets down after taking meal, then you should take small amount of frequent meals. Better to rest after taking meal. Do not take antihypertensive drugs before meal. Don’t take high carbohydrate diet like potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. You may take caffeinated coffee with your meals. caffeine can increase blood pressure, as caffeine is known to cause other problems as well so take advice from your doctor before increasing caffeine in your diet. 2 cups of coffee give you 250 mg of caffeine.

You may wear elastic support stockings to cover your legs and thighs. By doing this, you restrict blood flow to legs, and most of blood retain in upper body parts thus keeping blood pressure normal.

Avoid taking alcohol when you are having low blood pressure as alcohol is also an important dehydrating factor. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

Increase whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean chicken and fish in your diet

Medications for Low Blood Pressure

Following medicines can raise blood pressure and physicians often add these drugs to their prescription

Fludrocortisone. It is a mineralocorticoid that can be used for low blood pressure cases like postural hypotension. Its mechanism of action is retention of sodium by the kidney thus retaining more fluid in body and increasing blood pressure. Sodium retention causes loss of potassium at the same time, so when you are taking this medicine it is necessary to take potassium with your diet.

Midodrine. Midodrine activates arterioles and veins receptors to produce an increase in blood pressure. If you have shy drager syndrome then this drug can be useful to treat postural hypotension.

Some other drugs like pyridostigmine, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, caffeine and erythropoietin can also increase blood pressure.

Over 90% of high blood pressure ( hypertension ) cases have their cause unknown. You can even be suffering from hypertension, and not know. This is because there are no symptoms that are physically recognised. To be diagnosed you need to have your pressure checked by your doctor.
Your pressure levels are easily affected by things you do just before you’re tested. Smoking and drinking coffee can cause a temporary rise in your pressure which will show up on the results. Because of this, it is best to avoid any of these before you see your doctor as you can be tested at almost all doctor’s visits.
Other more serious health conditions that can cause high blood pressure are…
A stroke
High cholesterol
Diabetes
Heart disease
If you suffer, or have suffered from any of these it is a good idea to get yourself regularly checked. If you’re over the age of 60 then it’s a good idea to have regular checks as well.
You can help yourself reduce your blood pressure with the ten tips below.
Keeping your weight low will reduce the pressure on the way your whole body performs. Being overweight can out a strain on every major organ in your body.
Limit your intake of any alcoholic drinks.
Sodium is well known for increasing your blood pressure so you can change to a low sodium salt if you use it on your food, or you can cut it out altogether. Salt is also in a lot of foods so it’s a good idea to read the label before you purchase any.
Smoking kills hundreds of thousands of people every year so this should be cut out even if you don’t suffer from hypertension.
Getting regular exercise increases the strength of your heart and lungs as well as reduces your blood pressure. Just some easy, moderate exercise for half an hour a few times a week. Just walking will increase your heart rate enough for it to have an affect.
Eat a diet low in fat, especially saturated fat. Your body needs some fat to function properly so you don’t need to cut it out altogether. Some vitamins and minerals are transported around your body in your fat, and all you need to do is stick to the healthy fats.
Getting enough sleep will lower your hypertension.
Cut down your coffee intake if you’re a caffeine junkie. You can drink decaf if coffee is your favorite beverage.
Learn to relax more if your life contains a lot of stress. Meditation is a great way to relax, but it can take a while to master.
Take the time every day to do something you enjoy doing. Giving yourself a quality 30 minutes every day will make a difference in your life.
These are ten simple tips you can start doing today to lower your blood pressure.

May is blood pressure awareness month. Like all good causes, the National High Blood Pressure Education Program (NHBPEP), as part of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), has decided to designate a month devoted to educating people about the importance of getting their blood pressure tested and lowering their blood pressure if necessary. The annual event may just save people from the dangerous diseases that are caused by untreated high blood pressure .

A good, accurate blood pressure test is a necessary first step to giving you the right information about where you are and what you need to do to keep your blood pressure at a healthy level. Many quick stop blood pressure centers at the pharmacy or even your doctor’s office, don’t always give you the right information. That is because you are usually in a hurry, or perhaps so stressed out by shopping that these tests give you inaccurate readings. Often a false high blood pressure reading is the case, but this may only be a temporary raise. On the other hand, a false low reading can result from faulty equipment or the way the cuff is applied.

There are other ways to make sure you know and understand your blood pressure situation. Follow these steps to stay on top of your heart health by monitoring your blood pressure.

1. Get regular readings at the same time each month. If you are concerned about possible hypertension, then daily monitoring may be necessary. For the average healthy person, monthly, semi-annually or even annual readings are sufficient.

2. If you are borderline hypertensive, take preventative measures immediately. Don’t wait until your blood pressure gets dangerously high to do something about it. Changes in lifestyle and nutrition can greatly impact blood pressure and help you avoid life-long medication. It is easier to get the situation under control if dealt with early on.

3. Prepare for testing by giving yourself time to relax and come to a natural resting heart rate before taking the reading.

4. Don’t take blood pressure measurements immediately after drinking coffee, cola, or other drinks containing caffeine. Also, wait an hour after taking cold or allergy medicines. These raise blood pressure temporarily and will give you a false reading.

5. Blood pressure is different when standing or sitting or suddenly changing position. Don’t take a reading until you have been in the same position for at least a couple of minutes. You can also take readings in both arms and get the average for a more accurate assessment.

The most important part of keeping your blood pressure and heart healthy is knowledge. Learn about how you can eat right, how much to exercise, and what preventative measures you can take each day. If you do all of these things you will be able to keep blood pressure stable even if you have a family history of hypertension. Above all, keep your weight in the healthy range for your height and age. Just losing a few pounds can significantly lower blood pressure and improve your overall health…visit naturalblood-pressure.blogspot.com

Generally a normal blood pressure reading is considered 120/80. The top number (120) is our systolic pressure and the bottom number (80) relates to the diastolic pressure. But just what is systolic and diastolic pressure?
Systolic pressure (the top figure) is the arterial blood pressure exerted when the heart contracts and pumps blood through the arteries in the body. Whilst the diastolic pressure (the bottom figure) relates to the pressure in the heart as it rest between each heartbeat.
You may have noticed that the systolic and diastolic measurements are sometimes measured in mm Hg. This is shorthand for millimetres of Mercury, as Hg is the chemical symbol for mercury.
Up until relatively recently the most convenient way to measure blood pressure was to use a device that incorporated tubes filled with mercury, that would rise and fall to display the persons blood pressure.
There are of course now electronic devices that are used in most doctors surgery, which tend to be more convenient. Also, there is a growing market in home blood pressure monitors that allow people to track their progress of any treatment they are receiving.
Generally, one reading is not sufficient to confirm that a person has high blood pressure, unless it is severely elevated. There are a number of factors that can impact on a persons blood pressure reading, including the level of activity prior to the reading, smoking, caffeinated drinks (like tea and coffee), and anxiety or stress.
An example of when this can occur is referred to as “white coat” anxiety, when the person whose blood pressure is being check feels stress or anxiety due to the environment in the surgery.
This is generally why successive checks are carried out to gain a baseline measurement for an individual then a proper treatment plan can be adopted.
Sometimes the doctor may suggest ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). This means that a person is monitored throughout a 24-hour period as they go about their normal day’s routine. You’ll be given a cuff to wear that takes your blood pressure automatically at set intervals throughout the day.
This technique measures the blood pressure at regular intervals and stores the information in a chip to be output later. This approach can be useful for those that show erratic and variable blood pressure readings, or a person is showing particular anxiety when being measured in the surgery.
Generally, it is considered normal to have a lower blood pressure reading when on average when checked throughout the day.
As soon as diagnosis has been made then a treatment plan can be prescribed. This can consist of hypertension medication, changes to diet and lifestyle changes, including more exercise and losing weight.
If a person finds himself or herself above the normal blood pressure reading then this may not reflect their baseline state. However, it should be a wake up call to make changes in their lives to bring the blood pressure back to normal levels.
